Phytosanitary alert in the whole country
A team from the Horticultural Phytopathology Laboratory in Bella Vista, Corrientes, recently reported the presence of the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus in the scientific journal New Disease Reports.
Following this publication, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) declared a phytosanitary alert for the whole country on July 6th, until 31 December 2024.
Senasa's objective is to strengthen actions in order to further determine the exact situation of this virus in the country, contain and eradicate outbreaks, avoid its establishment and spreading. Prevention, detection, containment and eradication measures were implemented. Suspected symptoms of the disease are to be reported immediately.
In addition, the ToBRFV Crisis committee was created, coordinated by Senasa, and composed by an inter-institutional working team made up of the National Plant Protection Directorate, the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), the National Seed Institute (INASE), official research centers, universities, provincial governments, representatives of the private and public sector, and other institutions linked to the problem.
Senasa, INTA and INASE will hold a series of technical talks to provide information on this virus as well as recommendations for producers, professionals and technicians in the sector. The first one will take place virtually on 11 July, and a meeting will be held in the province of Salta on 12 July.
